Things tend to evolve quickly on the Web, especially in marketing strategies. Techniques that worked great a few short years ago produce little to no results today. What method has proved to be the mainstay cash generating effort?

This is an easy and obvious answer – the sales video script. This is nothing “new” so to speak; sales videos have been growing in use, year after year – but, the script writing for the videos has gotten better and better – year after year.

A great sales page is still a must – but more and more Web sellers are using sales videos to crush their competition. It is no secret – people love video. When it comes to making sales online, the use of great sales videos will only increase.

Whether it be for products, or services, online sales videos have taken the Web by storm, and it is the super tool of the future for successful Internet marketers. The better the content contained within these videos, the better the sales. Conversion rates tend to go through the roof for sales videos that are done really well.

A good sales page may convert visitors at 5 to 7% using copy alone, but when you add a great sales video to the same page – conversion rates go up dramatically. (Some as high as 11 – 38%)

These kinds of numbers sound almost unbelievable, but when you combine all of the right elements into a Web sales campaign, they are not unheard of. A lot of different things can affect your response rates.

One of these things is the quality of the traffic. Visitors who are keenly interested in the content presented convert at much higher rates than passive visitors. To attract these kinds of targeted leads the content must be rich, unique, top quality material, aimed directly at what these viewers are most interested in.

Take for example the “make money from home” niche. This saturated niche is somewhat comprised of many low-grade, poorly written, often plagiarized content. A lot of these “sales” Web sites were seemingly “thrown-up” overnight and sport very little original concept material.

Yet some savvy marketers are absolutely killing it in this arena by providing high quality, top grade, sales videos that are informative, unique, and engaging. The sales video script is a critical component and tends to make or break the success of these sites.

Even a low budget video can still compete to make sales (think you-tube) if the script for the video is crafted by a professional sales writer who knows how to create a powerful script that resonates and strikes a nerve with viewers.

However, it is better still to use moderate-budget video producing equipment that gives higher resolution, less grainy frames, as well as better audio. Using a host site that supports higher bandwidth will allow your videos to appear much more professional looking.

Nevertheless, the script itself is still just about the most important element at work. Just because a video looks better, and sounds better, does not make the message it contains any better (Just easier to hear and look at). If the video script is weak, poorly written and is not compelling – even a professional actor plus a 1080 DPI will not help it to make sales.

By combining two of the most people-favored elements; (a great story, plus video) Web marketers have discovered they can generate very powerful Web Pages to hawk their goods and services.

Having a positive, solid script also gives the narrator a great boost in confidence so they may come off as being personable, and engaging, instead of boring or unsure of themselves.

To give your sales video “teeth” compose your script to address a very specific need your target market has. To keep it personable and believable, speak as though you are sitting right beside your viewers.

Give it a short introduction, but use the audience’s attention wisely by letting the focus of it stay upon them, their needs, and how you, or your product will benefit them directly.

By addressing viewers in this manner, you will keep their attention because they can relate – no one knows what is going on with them better than they do, and when you personify the script to them, they will engage the message.

If the script is all about your business, what you have done, can do, or will do, folks tend to disengage from this kind of script because they feel as though they are being “sold.”

By approaching them in the opposite manner, you will be able to break through the natural “sales barrier” of resistance, most people have set up. Once past this hurdle, you will allow them to “sell themselves.”

Keep your script clear, concise, and short. No one wants to hear an “all about you,” type of pitch – of course they want to hear about what you can do for them, but they would rather hear it from the point of view that concerns the “what is in it for them.”

At the close of the script give them several calls to action such as: “to learn more about how we can help you – call us at,” or “email us,” or “visit our Web site.” The sales video is a great tool that has the potential to reach a huge audience.

The better your script – the more sales you will make, the more leads you will bring in, the greater response you will achieve. Your video script can set the stage to bring in more sales, more leads, and huge rewards for your business.

Most sales videos are poorly produced, unscripted, and fall way short of the potential they have to generate massive response, simply because the producer does not know exactly how much power to “succeed or fail” the script itself has.

Give the next sales video you produce the gusto it needs to be a smashing success, by paying attention to the copy within it.

Your message can “set you apart from the rest,” and have folks scrambling for their credit card.

Is this the type of sales video you want to produce? Great!

Using local SEO and targeting local organic traffic is a large section of any internet marketers campaign and this is mainly because there are so many small businesses operating today. It has been estimated that there are close to thirty million in the United States alone and of these the majority of their first time customers have come through looking for a solution to their problems on search engines like Google.

Because of this, local visibility has become more important than ever before. It is not important whether you are a work from home business or a large corporation, by employing a local search engine optimization strategy it is possible to directly increase the amount of first time buyers. You do not need to create a complicated local SEO strategy in order to encourage local business, there are a few easy steps that you can implement to generate more sales.

A simple thing to do, especially if you are an online home based business, it to claim your own business profiles that are already in existence. It would in all likelihood amaze you just how many search engines and major websites have your business profile already online. Included amongst the most common examples are Google Places, Yahoo Local and Bing Local. If you go through all the verification steps, you will then be able to claim your business profile and modify it so that it is easier for people to find, and also to be sure that the information is actually correct and useful.

It is essential that you take control of the information that is already in existence about your business online.

The majority of local listings come through aggregation sites that search through the internet collecting the information that can then be displayed in a single place.

If for some reason these aggregation sites find information that is not right about your business it is possible that they will be unaware that they are displaying something that is incorrect. A common error is that phone numbers or addresses are not displayed correctly. This results in the possibility of a prospective customer who could be trying to get in touch with you will be unable to do so because of incorrect data. In most cases they will not really try too hard to contact you, they will simply move on to the next local business in the same line of work as you.

Another great idea would be for you to set up a central data location of your own. It is incredible just how many information aggregation websites are online that have information about your business and the best way to take advantage of this exposure and generate more local organic traffic is to have a place where your prospective customers can go directly which could be either your own website or a social network such as Twitter or a Facebook Fan Page. This will ensure that any customer, no matter where they learn about your business, will be sent to the same place. You must allow these sites to send you traffic, but at the same time you need to still be able to take control of this traffic as quickly as you can.

So you can see from this that there are numerous methods that you can use to benefit from local organic traffic for your business. The key is to understand why local SEO strategies are necessary to your online income business and the way you can get the best leverage from the aggregation websites. The three main steps you can take is to be sure to claim all of your business profiles that are already in existence, to take control over that information that is being displayed with regards to your business, specifically the phone numbers and the address, and finally you must make sure that you have a central location to which all of this organic traffic is sent such as your own website or a social network profile.

There’s been a lot of talk lately that article marketing has gone the way of the Do-Do bird, especially since the Google Panda update. As I see it though, the value of article marketing hasn’t diminished at all, the process itself has just evolved. Add guest blogging to your article marketing strategy and bring it back to life.

Most webmasters don’t realize it but guest blogging is another type of article marketing, one which produces much better results if done properly. After all, what’s a blog post? It’s just another article, only it’s published on a blog. And what’s a blog? A blog is another place to publish said article – just like an article directory but with better quality traffic.

How Does Guest Blogging Help Your Traffic?

Submitting articles to online directories is fine if you’re only after the link juice. But directories are not destination websites. The only time someone reads your article when it’s posted on a directory is if they come across the link while conducting a search. That’s all well and good if you have the number one spot, but if there are other articles that outrank yours on the index, the chances of someone reading your article are reduced.

An established blog, on the other hand, is a destination website, which means there are people who visit that blog directly, and repeatedly, to see what new information has been posted. Your guest blog post will be seen by all of those regular visitors, whether they were searching for that information or not.

Essentially, when you publish an article on a directory, your traffic is hit-and-miss. If it’s a hot topic and/or you rank well, you’ll get readers. But when your guest post is published you have a ready made audience arriving every day, ready to read the latest news.

How To Make Guest Blogging A Vital Part Of Your Article Marketing Strategy

Obviously, since you’re not just haphazardly submitting dozens of articles, it takes a little more effort to include guest blogging in your article marketing strategy. Here are some tips to make it well worth your while:

Choose Carefully: It’s important to choose your blogs carefully or you’ll just be wasting your time. You certainly don’t want your guest blog posts to be published on any questionable blogs. But even more important, you want to choose blogs that attract relevant traffic.

For example, it wouldn’t make any sense for you to submit a guest post on dog training tips to a blog about SEO practices. First of all, they probably wouldn’t accept it. But even if they did, none of their followers would read your post because that’s not the kind of information they’re looking for.

While traffic numbers shouldn’t be your main concern, the quality of the traffic coming into that blog is important. Look for activity in the comments section but also take a look at the SEO that’s been done. Are they pulling in targeted traffic that will be beneficial for you or are they using Justin Bieber and Britney Spears to drag in readers from all corners of the Web?

Don’t Worry About Traffic: Comment activity is usually a good sign but quantity doesn’t necessarily equal quality. A lot of blogs have lower traffic or activity levels but the traffic they do receive is highly targeted. Never underestimate the power of SEO.

Read the Blog: Now that you’ve narrowed your search, read the blog. Get a feel for the type of content they use, how they address their audience, and the type of information the audience is looking for. Is there a certain topic they talk about more than others, etc.

Read the Comments: Before I submit a guest blog post I always cruise the comments section. Sometimes you can pick up a really great idea from the regular readers of that blog. At the very least you’ll learn what they like to talk about.

Make Your Article Relevant: This is the hard part. Your first inclination will be to write an article just like you’d write for one of the directories, an article that gently leads people to click on your link. In some cases, that will be fine. But most bloggers won’t appreciate your self-promotion.

Concentrate instead on writing an article that showcases your expertise as it relates to that particular blog.

Write a Great Resource Box: Your resource box on your standard directory articles may seldom, if ever, be read. The reader arrived at your article looking for an answer to a specific question. If you answered it in your article, he’s satisfied and he’ll click away. If you didn’t answer it, he’s not satisfied, and he’ll click away in anger.

However, your resource box in your guest blog post will get a lot more attention, especially if you’ve written a good quality, informative, relevant post. Make sure you include these 4 things in your resource box:

1. Your name – Use your real name to establish credibility and authority
2. Your website URL – If you have the opportunity to include more than one link, make one of the URL and the other an anchor text link. Some readers still feel safer clicking on an actual URL.
3. Your USP – Tell the readers why they should click on your link. What is it that makes you special?
4. Your Call to Action – Tell the reader exactly what you want them to do. Click Here isn’t enough. You have to tell them what they’ll get if they do – Click Here to read my article about XYZ Now!

Think Outside the Box: There are thousands of guest blogging opportunities out there so it’s important to learn to think outside the box. It’s not necessary to look for blogs in your exact same niche. In fact, the whole point of guest blogging is to increase your visibility, so branching off into a related niche isn’t a bad idea.

For example, maybe you normally blog about vegetarian recipes and you come across someone looking for a guest blogger on their Baby Care blog. What a great opportunity for you to attract new parents who might be interested in a vegetarian diet for their babies. Write a guest blog post about homemade vegetarian baby food and you’ll attract a whole new audience.

Traffic is essential to anyone who owns a website and/or blog. Without traffic we have no customers or sales. Unfortunately traffic does not just come to us, we have to work at it and we have to be consistent and persistent.

Sales conversion rates normally average less than 5%. What this means is that only 5% of the people who visit your site will become a paid customer. So, to grow your sales, you need to boost your traffic and/or your conversion rates. Below are twelve things you can do right now to start increasing your traffic to get those sales.

1. Launch an Article Marketing Campaign – Writing articles is not as hard as you might think and it can do wonders for your traffic! Write about something you know and just pretend you are telling a friend all about it. There is no need to use big, fancy words because people just want basic, straightforward information. Submit your articles to some of the more prominent article directories such as Ezine Articles.

2. Guest Posting and/or Commenting on Blogs – Do a search to find quality blogs in your niche and ask if they accept guest posts. Write helpful comments on existing posts and leave your link. Get involved and start building your reputation! A good place to find blogs that need guest posts is BloggerLinkUp.

3. Write Website Reviews – Review websites on Alexa and get more traffic and improve your Alexa rating. Go to Alexa, register an account and start reviewing and getting that traffic.

4. Relevant Keywords – There are a lot of free keyword suggestion tools you can use to find the top keyword searches for your niche. For example: if you own a pet care site, you would enter the words pet care and the tool would find the most relevant keywords for you to use on your site.

5. Yahoo Answers – Visit Yahoo Answers regularly and post as many answers as you can but be sure to follow their policies. You cannot try to directly lead people to your purchasing pages or leave low quality answers with your website link.

6. Interactive Site – Make your site interactive with forums, polls, surveys, etc. If your visitors feel more involved with your site, you will get repeat visits and longer stays. Add a little fun as well with contests, games, etc. Have a weekly or monthly scavenger hunt, trivia game, etc. Running a contest for a month can boost your traffic by thousands.

7. Business Cards – Produce an effective business card and hand them out wherever you go. Be sure to make it unique. Offer a discount on a first order. Add a personal message. Offer a freebie. Make your business card more than just your name and address.

8. Podcasting – A podcast is an audio or video broadcast which people can listen to and/or watch on many devices. Make your podcast informative but interesting. Talk about how your site can help the people listening and let them know about any contests or other interactive activities you offer. All you need to make a podcast is a working microphone and a voice editor such as Audacity. Once you have made your podcast, promote it in podcast forums and podcast directories such as PodcastBlaster.

9. Moving Billboard – Turn your vehicle into a moving billboard to advertise your website wherever you go. Use affordable vinyl coverings such as Car Wraps or magnetic signs from Esigns. A day of fun can bring you a lot of traffic from your mobile billboard!

10. Social Media – These days social media is a must for more traffic. Join Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and more. Visit message boards and forums and really get involved. Answer people’s questions, offer helpful advice and information. Becoming an active participant in social media can do wonders for your traffic.

11. Offer a Freebie – Write an informative report or ebook and offer it for free. Put in your website link and other business info. Let people know they can give it away on their sites as well. Add it to your email signature. Post it on your social media pages. Before you know it, your report could be all over the web bringing you new traffic every day.

12. Sitemap - Create an XML sitemap for your site and submit it to Google. A sitemap will allow more accessibility to your pages by the search engines, thus making your pages easier to find by people doing searches. You can easily create up to a 500 page sitemap with XML-Sitemaps. There are other options as well such as XSitemap. Do a search and find alternative options to choose from.

There are numerous ways to get more traffic to your site. Some will work for you and some will not. Try the ideas in this article and add to them, or mold them to work even better for you. Traffic does not come easily but by working hard, trying new ideas and finding out what works best for you will be very effective in boosting your traffic.

I like to run this list every few months – bookmark it – Save it – it really helps!

1. Write and submit articles . It is a classic, but it works. This will be indefinite traffic stuck in the search engines for you. Write quality unique articles, not articles that are rehashed or provide no insight to readers, which is a huge problem these days.
2. Write and submit press releases, think prweb after you do one.
3. Write and ping blog entries. Always make sure to link back to your website with your blog posts. Try making multiple blogs and have them all link back to one main site.
4. Make sure your website is listed in DMOZ: http://dmoz.org/.
5. Advertise your website in the appropriate categories at Craigslist. Try posting your ads in the most populated cities in the world.
6. If a niche related forum that you frequently visit allows signatures, then make sure to add your website url in there.
7. Make sure to view related products on Amazon.com. You can try and take some customers from your competitors here by providing your own url if the product is similar.
8. Review websites in your niche on Alexa to try to take some of their traffic by including a reference back to your site.
9. Review some related products on epinion.
10. If you purchase a product that you actually like, then feel free to give an individual respect when respect is due and leave a testimonial. You should be able to get some traffic from that website if your testimonial is left with a url.
11. Whenever you send an email to someone, always add your website url as a signature.
12. Keep updating content on your websites/blogs… try at least once per week.
13. Tag blog posts at social bookmarking sites, especially at http://del.icio.us/.
14. Add photos to your blog with appropriate keywords.
15. Tag blog photos at Flickr.
16. Politely ask your readers to subscribe to your rss feeds.
17. Try coining your own term. Might want to trademark it if you smell that it will become popular.
18. Encourage readers to comment on your blogs.
19. Include translation for your websites/blogs, especially in Chinese.
20. Do not be boring, write about something that a wide select of people would want to know about.
21. Make sure to edit your writing (unlike what im doing).
22. Comment on other related blogs.
23. Make a custom 404-error page for your website. You can provide a link back to your main website or even try to monetize it by offering a related affiliate program within your niche.
24. Sponsor a charity, most charities will link back to your website, and you are also doing a good deed .
25. Sell an item on eBay as a charity auction. Most charities will link back to both your auction and your main website.
26. Start a publicity campaign, do something that individuals in your niche will take note of.
27. Brand your website with a logo and a slogan/catch phrase. Think IBM.
28. Hold a crazy contest that people in your niche will talk about. This will equal more links and traffic to your website.
29. Build a tool that individuals in your niche will love and enjoy. Then give it away for free. If the tool is helpful, then you will get quality one-way links to your website.
30. Contact small newsletters sources offline and submit articles to them.
31. Become friends with editors of an offline publication.
32. Give speeches offline. Start small and local. Also, do not forget to participate in toastmasters meetings in your area.
33. Have a GREAT product. All of the marketing/advertising in the world will do you NO good if your product is sub par.
34. Make something innovative. If you are selling information, what makes your content something you cannot get from the local bookstore, Barnes and noble or even eBay for that matter?
35. Is your product groundbreaking? Will you leave individuals with no choice but to talk about your product or service?
36. Are you selling something that wide groups of people want to know about but there is limited/scarce knowledge?
37. Write good content, if your writing is good then people will share it with their friends. In addition, webmasters will use it as content on their website with a reference back to your article, or at least they should.
38. Spark emotions. If you get people emotional about something then they will most likely talk about it.
39. Get a custom t-shirt made with your website url on it, and wear it often.
40. Build a list of subscribers. Your list is like a golden asset to you if utilized correctly.
41.Write tip articles, such as “Ten easy tips to blank-blank-blank.”
42. Buy traffic from the search engines by utilizing one of their PPC campaigns.
43. Open up a myspace account and find targeted friends so that you can promote your services to them. Do not spam people, myspace is cracking down on spammers and are starting to sue people.
44. Solicit a link from your local chamber of commerce.
45. Have an easy to remember domain name. If your domain name is too long or not memorable then people may forget your site.
46. Add a bookmark option to your website/blogs.
47. Purchase the misspelled versions of your domain name and have it redirect to your main one.
48. Use keywords in your image alt tags.
49. Make sure to include appropriate keywords in your title tag, search engines show more prominence or importance to keywords here.
50. Place appropriate keywords in your anchor text when linking.
51. If you have a profile anywhere online, always include appropriate keywords and link back to your website.
52. Try to get links from websites within your niche with a high pr (pagerank). Some The more one-way links (inbound links/backlinks) you have to your website, the higher your pr will become. Pagerank is important because websites with higher prs tend to have a higher search results in Google. It is a no brainier that if you can get number one for a competitive keyword then you will have enough traffic that you can handle… oh by the way its all free targeted traffic to remind you.
53. Outsource grunt work. Time is in essence money…. you can hire individuals at freelance services to send emails, request JV proposals, or to answer questions from prospective or current customers.
54. Offer something for FREE. Abracadabra is not the magic word, FREE is. It is like a worm on a pole for a fish in the water…. its bait! Offer a free mini course or free ebook to help collect more subscribers. You can always offer a backend to monetize on this opportunity, such as an affiliate product for example.
55. After someone orders from you offer a one-time offer that compliments your product. For example, if I offered a traffic ebook, then after the individual purchase it would make sense for me to offer a traffic conversion bonus for a limited time only.
56. Become the virus within your niche. Make yourself the bug and have people talking about your product. When people talk about your product then you can induce the viral effect. However, you must give people a reason to talk about you, and being like everyone else is not one.
57. Do your research and find expensive niches to tap into. A good way to do this is to find how expensive someone is paying for a keyword on a PPC search engine. If you can sell items that are more expensive more often then it is a quicker way to get rich.
58. Become an active respected member of niche related forums. You can do this by offering quality posts. Hint Hint, it is not the number of posts you make, it is the quality. Remember, quality or quantity. Many useless or negative posts will have people looking at you funny.
59. Test, test, test. Your flushing money down the toilet if your not testing to see what campaigns are bringing you in the most money compared to which ones are costing you money. When you test, you can eliminate the campaigns that are costing you dollars so that you can properly maximize your marketing efforts. Without proper testing, you are pretty much lost and can’t improve. You can only guess to what has or what is working. With proper testing, you do not guess, you know.
60. Stay up to date on what is going on in the world, you can monetize off hot topic trends.
61. Network, when you know more people you can find people that can help you get what you need.
62. Offer an affiliate program for your product or service. Make sure to let your satisfied customers know that you have one, if they like your product then they will be even more delighted to know that they will get money for referring you.
63. Write and give away a free ebook or report. It does not have to be long as long as its quality information neatly formatted and put together. You can also make a brandable ebook or report and allow affiliates the opportunity to brand their affiliate links in there to pass on to the next individual. You can then send this ebook to your subscribers or submit it to ebook directories.
64. Add viral components to your blog such as social bookmarking options, and a refer a friend option.
65. Be funny, people like something that will make them laugh and they will spread it for you if it is a genius idea.
66. Syndicate your content by using an RSS feeds on your website.
67. Answer people’s questions on Yahoo! answers with a link to your website in the sources area.
68. Put a link in the “about me” section of your eBay profile.
69. Make and upload a viral video to you tube. Use appropriate keywords in the video description for your target audience.
70. Record an informative podcast and submit them to poplar podcast directories.
71. Provide helpful answers for Google adsense on their help forum with a link back to your website. Go here to check it out: http://groups.google.com/group/adsense-help
72. Get people to comment and add content to your site. When they do this, they will provide you unique content, no need to pay for ghostwritten articles.
73. If you cannot get JVs, then try to bribe webmasters for sponsored advertising space on their newsletters.
74. Include a media section on your website so that you will give the media an easy way to stay up to date on what your company is doing.
75. Try to teach a class at your local community college or university. The more exposure you get in the public, the more credibility you will receive.
76. Make a screensaver and make it easy for individuals in your niche to download it. Have eye candy graphics combined with your company logo to brand yourself.
77. Write something controversial and spread it freely to your target market. It can be something as idiotic as the Da Vinci code, but as long people talk about it, its a successful campaign. A few hints, something controversial is something that goes against established beliefs in your market.
78. Write and publish a book. Having your own book is a quick way to gain credibility.
79. Take a guru in your niche out to lunch, and pay for it.
80. Start an organization or club about something. This can be done online through Yahoo! or Google groups.
81. Volunteer. Donate your time to a good clause…you can always network with people and form connections at the same time.
82. Get involved in your community and try to run some type of outreach program.
83. Offer good customer service, you may be surprised on how many referrals you get just be having a reliable one.
84. Consider adding a direct mail marketing campaign to your marketing ****nal.
85. Put an ad in your local yellow pages to get some local customers. Yellow pages tend to be more successful then newspaper ads because individuals are looking for a particular service when they are browsing through the yellow pages as opposed to newspapers.
86. Post bulletins in your local supermarket. However, since not everyone may carry a pen or pencil, place your contact information and url on strips on the bottom so that individuals can rip it off and take it with them.
87. Host your own commercial so you can put “as seen on TV” on your products.
88. Conduct surveys and publish them. These make you appear as an expert in your field of study.
89. Break a record or shoot to be in the Guinness world records for something.
90. Make a sitemap for your website.
91. Use a favicon for your site.
92. Make your visitors more involved in your website. You can help accomplish this by adding CGI scripts to your site.
93. Make sure you have no broken links on your site, and make sure that your website shows clearly in all browsers.
94. Find domain names that get traffic, purchase them, and have them redirect to your website.
95. Spell correctly whenever using keywords in writing.
96. Look at sites related to your niche to try to figure out how they get their traffic.
97. Properly optimize your website for the right keywords.
98. Try to avoid java scripts on your website as much as possible.
99. Do not use frames on your website.
100. If your website becomes popular and starts getting lots of traffic, try switching to a dedicated server. The longer you site is down equals the more lost visitors you will have.
101. Write a quality 101 article about a steamy topic that people want to know more about in your niche .

It is common knowledge that to survive in online business these days, you must be able to offer something of value, Free to your site visitors. I am not referring to give away bonuses but to items you feature on your website to attract and retain visitors. These can be in the form of “special posts” which are designed for link baiting purposes.

Depending on the success you achieve with your link baiting, you may graduate from offering this link bait Free to either using it as a means of generating a list by requiring sign ups or even eventually turn it into a paid tool/service.

What should this link baiting tool/service comprise of?

This is where I find that most relatively new marketers get it wrong. They seem to always indulge in “taking coal to newcastle.”

What do I mean by this?

There is already a preponderance of certain types of Free items on the internet. This includes things like e-books, newsletters etc. Why not give something unique and use it as a link bait to attract visitors and self-generating and perpetuating backlinks?

Also, you cannot effectively compete with the “Gurus” and big companies as a small business owner in terms of quality and quantity when it comes to offering free common items such as newsletters, e-books etc.

When trying to decide what your link bait should be, fall back on your areas of strength – that is, areas where you have a comparative advantage over others.

For link baiting to be valuable and sought after, it must be comprised of the following:

 * Can not easily be replicated by other webmasters. This must mean it must involve some special skill, work and time. The more of these it involves in most cases, the more you separate yourself from the pack and the more effective the link baiting becomes.

I’ll give you some examples.

Traffic Hoopla’s Hit Exchange Reports:

Since 2002 (Yes, before TrafficHoopla.com), this site has consistently published what has become the most popular, and most respected testing report on manual hit exchange advertising.

It is called the Hit Exchange Report, now an exclusive of Hoopla Pro Membership, published every Tuesday, without exception, no missed issues, ever.

Extrapolating from the above, the key features of good link baiting come to light – that is uniqueness, involving time and effort, skill as well as areas of comparative advantage.

Directory Submission Software:

There is this IMT Directory submission software just released in BETA to members of the famous internet marketing forum – Warrior Forum. I specifically noted the Alexa Rating of the webmaster’s forum on which it is hosted as about 60,000 at the time of release barely a month ago. As of today, the Alexa Rating of the forum is 15,615. What a nose-dive within so short a period of time, thanks to the “link baiting” tool.

It must have taken the originator quite sometime, effort and skill to develop the product but he is now beautifully harnessing the benefits.

Free WordPress Themes:

This is another example. When programmers design WordPress themes and give them away for free, what do you think they are doing? Being foolish or playing father Christmas? Certainly not. They insert their links in these themes and use it as a perfect link baiting tool.

Top Article Directories:

This is one of my own link baiting tools/service. I have identified my area of strength as management accounting which ordinarily I use to carry out research and provide accounting data for management decision-taking.

I have deployed this skill in gathering data, analyzing, summarizing and presenting information for the use of other webmasters as a link bait.

Within barely a few weeks of the post, my targeted keyword phrase – “top article directories” is already ranking as no. 2 on page 1 for that term and has been responsible for a large chunk of traffic to my website.

Of course, my backlinks for that post have gone viral and I just keep seeing one backlink or the other added on a daily basis even without any effort on my part.

In summary, link baiting is a very effective strategy for generating massive traffic and viral backlinks.

Improve Website Traffic and Sales With Keyword Research by Stanl1234

Even if you do not consider yourself very web or tech savvy, chances are you’re familiar with the term “keyword.” Every time you hop onto a search engine and surf the Internet for information, you’re using keywords somewhere in the process. Its role in the way users find information and resources is crucial to the way the web operates. If you’re interested in improving your website’s page rankings, increasing traffic and raising sales revenues, the main key is to learn how to use keyword research to your advantage.

What is Keyword Research?

As you already know, there are millions, if not billions, of different keywords that online visitors use on a daily basis. However, not all keywords are effective, nor do they promise good results when it comes to improving website traffic and page rankings. This is where keyword research comes into play. As the name implies, this type of research involves figuring out which sets of phrases are not only the most relevant to a website but also which ones are the most widely used by people surfing the Web that is not already being heavily used by competitor sites.

Benefits

What does keyword research have to do with your online business? The answer: a lot. One of the most obvious benefits is that using the right combination of phrases in your online content is a great way to improve website traffic and even increase sales. Unless people are able to find your site in their online searches, you’ll lose out on business. Low traffic means there are not a lot of people visiting your site, which means a lower chance of acquiring paying customers, which can ruin your business before it has even started.

However, with the right keywords sprinkled throughout your web pages, meta tags, page names and other areas, search engines will recognize your website faster and promptly display it at the top of a person’s search results each time they enter one or more keyword phrases that relate to the nature of your website. When this happens, more exposure is given to your site, which means an increase in web traffic and the better the odds are of converting a visitor to a paying customer.

How to Do Keyword Research

Over time the process of conducting keyword research in order to improve website traffic has gotten much more convenient. While there is always the option of brainstorming phrases off the top of your head, there are a variety of websites, tools and software applications that do the bulk of the legwork for you. Using these types of tools makes the process of finding the best keyword phrases for your website much faster, not to mention that many of them are available free of charge.

Once you’ve acquired your list of phrases, begin inserting them strategically into your website’s content. It is important to avoid using them too much by stuffing them into places where they do not belong. All of the content in your site should flow naturally and not make it so obvious that certain phrases are there for search engine purposes.

Let the Magic Begin

Over time, you’ll begin to notice your page rankings moving higher up in search results. When you’re able to improve website traffic through the use of viable keyword phrases, your website will not only become more profitable by receiving larger volumes of online visitors, but can effectively keep you ahead of the competition, while providing an increase in sales.

http://secockpit.info/#home

The concept of keyword research is one that is now widely familiar to most people. When it comes to online marketing, knowing which keywords to use can make or break a website’s presence on the Internet. Attempting to mine for the right keywords on your own can be time consuming and stressful, which has led to the creation of special tools and resources that are designed to streamline the process. SECockpit is the latest keyword research tool that many are turning to. http://secockpit.info/#home

(Author: David Jackson) I was watching the TV show Biography recently, and the celebrity being profiled was none other than Ted Williams. No, not Ted Williams the famous hall of fame baseball player and arguably the greatest hitter of all time. Biography, (which has profiled famous celebrities from Barack Obama to Michael Jackson to the Beatles) was profiling the story of Ted Williams, the homeless “man with the golden voice” who was discovered on a street corner in Columbus, Ohio in January, 2011 – thanks to a YouTube video that went spectacularly viral, receiving over 13 million views before it was removed at the request of the Columbus Dispatch newspaper due to copyright infringement.

What is Viral Marketing?

Think about that for a second. From homeless to being featured on Biography in only six short months. Such is the amazing power of viral marketing. So, what exactly is viral marketing?

In essence, viral marketing is word-of-mouth advertising. Or, to be more specific, Internet word-of-mouth advertising. And as you know, word-of-mouth advertising is the most powerful method of advertising there is, bar none – online or offline.

Viral marketing exists in many forms including articles, videos, e-books, software, reports, interactive flash games, white papers, text messages – even tweets.

The term “viral marketing” was first used in 1997 to explain the extraordinary growth of Hotmail which accumulated over 8 million users in an astonishing 18 months. Hotmail was subsequently acquired by Microsoft in 1997 for an estimated $400 million.

And what exactly was Hotmail’s viral marketing success secret? Actually, it wasn’t a secret at all. It was a clickable, single line of text in the footer of each and every e-mail that was sent from a Hotmail account that read:

“Sent from my free Hotmail account. Get your own free web-based email account Here!”

Word-of-Mouth Advertising

We’ve all recommended products and services we liked or were satisfied with to family, friends and acquaintances. And we know how powerful and persuasive favorable movie reviews and restaurant reviews can be – because millions of us decide what movie to see or what restaurant to eat at based on the reviews.

Well, social media has made word-of-mouth advertising even more potent. According to a study by Performics, people on social media networks enthusiastically recommend companies and buy products they follow. Among active Twitter users who follow at least one company, 59 percent are more likely to recommend a company they follow, and 58 percent are more likely to buy a product they follow.

In addition, 60 percent are at least somewhat likely to take action when a friend posts something about a product/service, company or brand.

And opinions posted by consumers online are the most trusted forms of advertising with 70 percent trusting consumer opinions posted online, according to the latest Nielsen Global Online Consumer Survey of over 25,000 Internet consumers from 50 countries. Those numbers simply cannot and should not be ignored.

How to Implement a Viral Marketing Strategy

I’ve been fortunate enough to have several of my articles go viral. In fact, a couple of my articles were so popular, at one time they were among the top 5k tweets on Twitter – out of 50 million daily tweets, according to Twitter’s analytics team. So, I’ve experienced first-hand the amazing power of viral marketing.

In order for something to become viral – meaning, spread rapidly like a virus it has to be something that can easily be sent to others with little effort. The aforementioned Hotmail text link is a perfect example of something requiring little effort to pass along. Recipients merely had to click on a link. It doesn’t get any easier than that.

It should also be something that “stands out” from the rest of the content on the Internet. Ted Williams’ amazing story is a perfect example of something that stood out and captured the hearts and imagination of millions of YouTube viewers.

Finally, it should have some sort of perceived value – not necessarily a monetary value per se. But it should have some sort of educational or entertainment value.

Following are 7 highly effective viral marketing techniques that should be part of your overall marketing strategy:

1. Videos. Upload an interesting, educational and/or entertaining video to YouTube, Metacafe and other video-share sites that captures the imagination of viewers, and anything is possible. Case in Point: Ted Williams. Need I say more? Speaking of videos, I’m currently in the process of converting some of my “How to” titles into videos…more on that later.

To learn how you can use videos to market your business even if you don’t have a camera, I highly recommend you Google and read Tracy Matthewman’s excellent tutorial, “How To Make Videos Even If You Don’t Have A Camera And Are Terribly Shy”.

2. Social Media. Although Hotmail achieved viral marketing success before the advent of social media, it’s hard to imagine
a business having that same level of success today without participating in social media networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and others. Simply put, social media marketing, if executed properly, can put your viral marketing efforts on steroids!

3. Article Marketing. If you write articles and allow them to be syndicated, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that one or more of your articles could go viral – provided, of course, they are well-written, interesting, educational and/or entertaining, and offer good value.

I receive articles in my e-mail box all the time from friends and colleagues who think the content is something I might be interested in reading. More often than not, they’re right. After you write your articles, you can significantly increase the reach of your content by converting them into videos, using conversion software such as ArticleVideoRobot.com and Article2Video.com. As I mentioned earlier, I’m currently in the process of converting some of my “How to” titles into videos.

If you don’t write well, or don’t enjoy writing, reputable and professional article writing services like Nicole Beckett’s PremierContentSource.com, can write articles for you at a reasonable cost.

4. Tweet Button. The Tweet Button is pretty much everywhere these days. This useful widget allows users to post a tweet to their Twitter profile from any website. Here’s how it works: Tweets posted using the Tweet Button are pre-populated with a shortened link to the webpage from which the message was sent (for example, your website). Users have the option of customizing the tweet’s content before posting it. This is an excellent way to give visitors to your site the ability to spread your content via Twitter. You can get a tweet button at the following link: twitter.com/goodies/tweetbutton.

5. Share Widget. Share widgets give your visitors the ability to easily share and bookmark your website through popular social network websites. You can get a share widget from ShareThis.com.

6. E-Books. E-Books have long been one of the most effective methods of viral marketing because they’re easy to produce and have the ability to reach a large audience. If your e-book contains content that is interesting, entertaining and/or educational, and offers good value, readers will enthusiastically pass it along to others.

If writing isn’t your forte, rebrandable e-books (e-books written by others) gives you the ability to accomplish the same thing. WhiteDove Books.co.uk has an excellent affiliate program already set up through ClickBank. Simply rebrand the e-books, and give them away or sell them. You will then make commission on back-end sales from your affiliate links within the books.

7. Newsletters. Newsletters are not only an excellent way to keep the name of your business in front your subscribers, they also have excellent viral potential. To take full advantage of this potential, at the end of your newsletter, ALWAYS encourage
readers to pass your newsletter along to others. You’d be surprised how many actually will – if you simply prompt them to do so. You can create a newsletter quickly, easily and inexpensively through services like ConstantContact.com and VerticalResponse.com.

As I’ve said before, if you want to blatantly market on Facebook, you have a several options you can exercise without looking like a spammer. Get a Facebook Business Page, Buy a Facebook Ad, Participate in or Create a Group, or Leverage Your Profile.

Now, I’d never discourage you from doing any of these, in fact, you should do them all.

But I’m not going to write about them all here today. The first two are pretty self-explanatory. You create a business page – if you know how to build and manage a community, you’re all set. (If you don’t, still a discussion for another day.) And who doesn’t know how to buy an ad? Yes, there are more effective ways to use ads on Facebook, but at the end of the day, the basics don’t need to be covered.

Networking through groups and leveraging though? Not as common-sense based as you might think.

For now let’s take groups. It’s an easier topic, and leveraging your profile will probably take an entire day of videos, which I will discuss another time.

The reasoning behind joining groups on Facebook is simple: groups are mini-communities that have discussion boards, and often links, photo and video sharing areas, where people have agreed that they have a common interest, and want to exchange information about it.

Let’s say you teach people how to turn a $39 book into a $300 info-product with videos and audio CDs. You search groups and you find a book marketing group for authors.

Awesome, perfect market – if they’re marketing their books, they want to make more money, and if they want to make more money, your program is custom-made for them. There’s 2000 people in this group and you can just count the money flowing in…

Here is where most people go wrong. They go into a social group with an ad mentality, and start posting what are essentially, ads for their products on the wall (the general guestbook type area) or in the discussions. And it will backfire every time.

“But Tinu”, you might be thinking, if it doesn’t work, “why do people keep doing it”?

I’ll answer that, but first let’s look at why it doesn’t work.

The fastest revelation will come from the dating world. Ladies, please raise your hand if you would respond favorably to the following situation:

A guy walks up to you and says, “Hi, you’re cute, let’s have sex now.”

Anyone?

Yeah. If there’s 100 ladies in the room, maybe, MAYBE one chick has her hand up.

If I say, all desperate women put your hands down, that will drop to zero.

So why do people do it? The same reason why one in one hundred people respond. Desperation and/or just plain ignorance. Not stupidity, mind you. They just honestly don’t know the right way to do it.

And the desperate customer, you just don’t want to have. No matter what you offer them, they’ll claim it doesn’t work and ask for a refund. So, really, it doesn’t work at all.

Then what does work?

Value.

There are tons of ways to get people on Facebook to come to your site and even do business with you at some point – add value, bring value, create value, enhance value. All of them have two steps, first, make someone else’s life a little better, second, don’t look so desperate for a sale.

Let them come to you.

Everyone wants the folks at Home Depot to help them buy a light fixture, but no one wants to be sold a lamp.

Website Promotion: How Articles Bring Visitors To Your Website by aaro01hwwa

You’ve built a website and are very proud to be counted among the ranks. Now you’re expecting people to come for a visit. In fact if this is your first website you’re probably thinking maybe I’ll get a few visitors or maybe a thousand visitors. Would it surprise you if I told you that you are going to get very few visitors?

Remember the movie Field of Dreams, 1989? Kevin Costner plays an Iowa farmer whose dream is to be a baseball player, something his father wanted for his own life. In the movie he hears voices from players that have passed on. What he hears becomes an aphorism still used today, if you build it he (they) will come. Meaning if he built the ball field his father, shoeless Joe and other baseball players from Chicago would come and he would get his chance. However this is not the case with building a website. Unfortunately know one knows you’re there and you won’t hear any voices telling where to go from here. Eventually the search engines will pick it up and you will get a few visitors that will trickle in but how to get the thousands to come is the question.

Building is just the beginning. You had your fun and now it’s time to get down to the nitty gritty. It’s called Website promotion. One of the secrets to tons of traffic to your website is to create one way back links. Writing articles is a way to get these back links. The proof is in the article you are reading right now that it works. Any questions?

Yes it’s time to get out the paper and pen like you did in school. People want information. They want to learn something new. They want to feel they have some inside information that no one else has. This is the information age, are you going to give them what they want?

If you have studied website promotion you probably have heard that content is king and if you haven’t then that’s probably good because it is slowly becoming obscure replaced with unique content is king. There are several things you can do to get started. You can buy private label content, (previously written articles) a big no no in my opinion since it indeed has been used everywhere else. You can purchase article generator software that puts a few filler words into your private label content, thus a new article. However I would not go this route as filler words are not usually unique. Another way would be to write the articles yourself.

What am I going to write you ask. If you sell wedding dresses your readers are going to want to know about weddings, picking out dresses and maybe advice about the important day. If you sell travel packages your audience is going to want to know about the best places to see. If you’re a breeder and someone is looking to buy a puppy, you might want to write an article on how to choose one. If you are a guitar salesman your readers might want to know which one is the best. The world is ready for uniqueness and information so here’s your chance.

How does an article help my site and what does it do? Most sites that accept articles for submission allow you a generous author’s bio at the bottom of your article. This is where you are going to give a brief description of yourself as well as the links of two or three sites you may be promoting. Over time you will create thousands of back links to your site that will send google into a tizzy. Back links is how the google determines what websites are worthy enough to have their robots roam upon. Roaming on your site is what you want.

I can’t write anything you say. I feel empathy for you but do not despair, you can hire a ghostwriter. Give the writer your ideas, pay the fee and let them put the pen to the paper. These days to be politically correct it would be fingers to the keyboard. Unfortunately be careful of who you have write the articles. There are some sneaky people out there that will buy these software generators themselves and try to sell you the same articles that I just told you to stay away from. What is worse is at some point you will run across one that has plagiarized someone else’s work and copied it right from the website next door.

Are the wheels turning yet? Now you ask where do I find these wonderful writers. If you will take the time to type in your google search type in freelance writer or other keywords, you will find plenty of people looking for work. The cost doesn’t have to be real high either.

I know you have one final question and that is where the rubber meets the road. What is the cost? You can hire a ghostwriter for pennies per word or sometimes you can pay per article. Some freelancers charge ten dollars or more per article depending on the experience of the writer.

This wasn’t your last question? Ok I have time for one more. What if I can’t afford to pay for these articles; I have a budget that looks like a shoestring. Well you still can write them yourself. There are plenty of free online courses that will teach you what you need to know.

There is another benefit besides the back links you create by writing articles. Once you get a few hundred articles out there relating to your service or product you become the source of information. You become a recognized expert in your field. Folks begin to see your name in your author’s bio and say hey I’ve heard about this guy before. He must know something. Folks turn to you at the source and expert in your industry. This is the time right now to jump on the article bandwagon.

I read somewhere that only fifty percent of Americans are internet connected. This leaves the field for playing wide open. This statistic does not even include foreign lands. Yes you can even market to them as they read and buy too. So only one decision needs to be made and I ask are you going to hire a ghostwriter or do it yourself? Either way is good if you are careful with the articles you buy and making sure if what you have is unique. Are you going to give your customers what they want? If you don’t someone else will. Potential customers want information and remember if you write it, they will read.

You’ve just written an eloquent, intelligent, and enlightening article. Your title is great, your topic is timeless, and the quality is top notch.

But wait a second–you’re not done yet. You need to create a resource box that will get the reader from your article on over to your website.

Article marketing is not just about the article–having a compelling resource box is crucial to your success!

Remember, you shouldn’t be talking about your own website or business in the article body, but you can (and should!) talk about your business and website in the resource box. Along with your name, brief bio info, and your website URL, you need to give the reader a reason to hop from your article on over to your website.

When you give the reader a great reason to click the link in your resource box leading to your website, you will generate more traffic to your site, which is what you’re after, right?

Use one of these top 7 resource box lures, and you’ll maximize your click throughs:

1) A free e-book

Your free e-book should be on the topic of your website (as all your articles should be), so any reader who likes one of your articles would be interested in a book with additional info.

In your resource box, be sure to say that the e-book is free, as anything free is very attractive to readers! If the e-book is of a longer length (let’s say 50 pages or so), you might want to put that bit of info in your resource box as well, as it lets the reader know that it’s a significant amount of info (and that would be more of a lure).

Your e-book doesn’t have to be of epic length though–even a book that is only 10 pages long and jam packed with helpful information would be valuable to a reader.

2) A newsletter

If you have a newsletter, you already have a wonderful reason for readers to click through to your website from your resource box. Instead of saying “For more info, visit my website”, it would be more effective to say, “Sign up for a free newsletter offering weekly tips on this topic” and then give your website URL.

3) An e-course

An e-course is basically a series of emails that teaches the reader something. It’s different than a newsletter because usually e-courses are of limited duration and are very specific in what they teach.

They’re effective because people love to learn, especially for free!

In your resource box you could say, “Claim your free 10 part e-course on [some specific aspect of your niche]” and then give your website URL.

4) In depth content

Most articles are limited in length to about 1500 words or less, so it’s hard to get super in depth in your article content.

Since you’re an expert in the topic of your website, why not create a page on your website that offers a continuation of the information you condensed in your article?

5) A great product or service

This is an easy one–if you’ve got a unique, stellar, stand out type of service or product, you have a build in reason for folks to click through to your site. Be sure that you explain in your resource box what your product is and what the benefits are. This approach works best if what you’re selling really is unique and there aren’t a whole bunch of other folks with the same type of product or service.

6) A discount

People LOVE feeling like they’re saving money and getting a good deal (the only thing people love more is getting stuff for free!). If you have a product based site, you might want to come up with some sort of offer that will allow your readers to get a discount on a purchase.

7) A blog

To be an effective resource box lure, the blog must be well-tended, offering fresh and useful information on the topic of your website. It depends on your niche, but I think a blog offering mostly ‘how to’ posts is most attractive to readers. A blog not only gives readers a reason to click through to your website from your article, but it also gives them a reason to continue visiting your site–you’re offering a steady stream of useful content, which is quite an incentive!

Now you’ve got 7 ideas for resource box lures that will give readers a reason to hop from your article over to your website. For each resource box, you only need one “lure”, but you can switch things up and try different reasons to click through for different articles.

Experiment and see which lure works the best for you!

Yes, there are lots of folks out there proclaiming it is the end of article marketing, but let’s be honest, people have been saying that for years. In fact, article marketing was dead when I first started but it doesn’t seem to have stopped it working for me.

First off, it’s worth noting that the whole purpose of the Farmer update was to enable searchers to find more high quality sites when searching for something. (You can read the official blog by clicking here.

Yep, Google figured its primary users (searchers, NOT webmasters) deserved a better user experience. And can you blame them? Personally, I hate searching for anything that really matters because I have so little faith in what I know is going to come up. Crappy, spammy websites designed to make money for the owner, not provide me with the information I need.

Therein lies the problem folks. People don’t want to read crap so if Google wants to stay in the game it has to quit serving it up. Can you imagine how long a restaurant would stay in business if the food it served was inedible? If folks are hitting the back button every time they click on one of Google’s results, that’s a powerful message that can’t be ignored. Would you ignore it if it was happening on your site? (hint – the answer to that question should be no)

Having said that, if your articles/sites have always provided good quality information, and if you’ve submitted that information effectively to reach as wide an audience as possible, you should now be seeing the rewards much more strongly than those who’ve tried to take the easy route with their article marketing.

My own sites have jumped up in the rankings, in some cases by several pages. So while a lot of the (so called) article marketers are proclaiming how bad for business this latest algorithm change is, I can only wonder what sort of articles they’ve been writing and what sort of marketing they’ve done with those articles.

I digress. Back to the topic at hand. According to Google, this latest change only affects 11.8% of search queries. I don’t know about you, but that suggests to me it’s more about certain topics than it is about anything else. Apparently, certain search queries are more likely to result in searchers finding rubbish content/websites than other search queries.

Hmm. I wonder what those particular search queries might be.

Now Potpie girl (don’t you just love that name) did a very in depth post, so I won’t bother repeating it here. I highly recommend you go read it however.

In summary, what she found was that the following topics were over saturated in certain websites, and those were the ones that took the biggest hit from the algorithm change.

1. – Penis Enlargement
2. – Get Your Ex Back
3. – Acai Berry
4. – Reverse Cell Phone Lookup
5. – Credit Card Debt Relief
6. – Male Enhancement Pill
7. – TV for PC

If you happen to be in any of those niches, you already know how much garbage is out there. If you’ve been adding to that garbage, you can expect (deservedly so) to be more than a little worried at this point in time.

Enough of the problems. What’s the solution?

I could advise you to go find a new niche, but that would be just a little silly. Besides, while Google is busy clearing out all the crap, that’s going to leave a huge gap in the market for quality information on those subjects. Smart folks will go out and fill that gap. Isn’t that the easiest route to making money anyway?

Define quality San.

Surprisingly enough there are lots of folks who simply don’t get what ‘quality’ is. They seem to believe it’s based on keyword density or article length. Duh! Neither of those have anything at all to do with quality content. In fact, if you’re considering either of those variables in your content, it’s pretty safe to assume you’re missing the quality benchmark by a long shot.

Quality, (much like beauty) is in the eyes of the beholder. So first and foremost, you should be preparing your content to appeal to the prospective customer. You know, the person you are hoping is going to read it and (hopefully):

 – share it with their mates
– buy whatever it is you’re selling

Remember, these people are trusting you with their time and attention. The least they deserve is to actually get some benefit from doing so. And that benefit should include an answer to the question they were asking. Yes, you can add in a little benefit of your own, like a reason for them to click your link and actually purchase something from you. But if you make your content about what’s in it for you, instead of what’s in it for your reader… well, don’t come crying to me when Google just flat out ignores you.

Article Submission?

Is it worth still submitting to the article directories? Or should they be renamed ‘content farms’? After all, Google sees them as such and has reduced their ranking accordingly. EZA, the biggest player in the article directories has seen a massive hit so what’s the point in submitting your content to them if you’re not going to get the traffic and link love you’ve come to expect?

Well, as my own guide, Article Explosion has always recommended, (long since before Google went into the farming business , article directories will always have a place in your marketing methods. They just shouldn’t be your only focus. And your submitted articles will need to be of good enough quality that they stand out from the rest.

In the past this wasn’t too hard. Most of the articles submitted were just plain garbage, badly spun PLR, keyword stuffed, illegible Crap! Nope. Not hard at all to stand out from that.

Now, you might have to work a bit harder to stand out. With quality guidelines being tightened up your competition won’t be quite as easy to beat. But if you put in the effort, then you will be able to beat it. And it will be worth it!

Search engine algorithms have become very advanced particularly in their ability to analyze the interlinking structures of the web and to determine unnatural linking practices (or ‘link schemes’ as they are often referred to). Techniques like reciprocal link building which worked well a few years ago, now fail to significantly improve ranking and can in fact cause serious problems if undertaken on a large scale or free-for-all uncontrolled manner.

The latest search engine algorithms place significant emphasis on determining the trust and authority of a site by analysing who links to it. Get links from reputable sources relevant to your particular field and you will be rewarded with higher search engine ranking.

Because the search engines possess a finely honed ability to determine the quality and relevance of links there’s little doubt that SEO is becoming much more difficult. Higher quality one-way links are now required and not just to the website homepage, but to every category and service the website offers through a process called deep linking (acquiring links to internal pages or your site). These links should ideally be placed on relevant content-rich pages in the body content of the page, not on content-devoid pages that consist solely of lists of links or are used for ‘link exchange’ purposes.

If you want to avoid search engine penalties, it has been shown time after time that the most successful web design and SEO strategies take into account Google Webmaster Guidelines. Taking this into account, here are some best practice SEO tips to help promote any new website:

1. Test Website Accessibility Thoroughly
Before spending hours optimizing your website content, check that search engines can actually find it. JavaScript Navigation Systems can be inaccessible to search engines, as can links inside Macromedia Flash content. Search Google for ’search engine simulator’ and use one of the free tools to check that all pages on your site are accessible. If not, re-design your website navigation system using text links or CSS drop-down menus.

2. Check Cross-Browser Compatibility
A site which doesn’t work in one or more web browsers will result in lost business as visitors turn away in the hundreds. Before embarking on SEO, check your website renders properly in all current browser versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome.

3. Each Page Should Have a Unique Purpose
No two pages should be optimized for the same keyword and the site’s structure should have a sensible hierarchy where main services and categories receive links from all website pages in what is called the persistent navigation. Less important pages should be linked from inside these sections or categories rather than in the main website navigation.

4. Research Keywords Buyers’ Use
Spend time doing thorough keyword research and always consider terms potential buyers would use when looking for the products or services you sell. Use a tool like the Google Adwords Keyword Tool to check local volumes and competition for keywords and build rich content around these identified terms using unique keywords on each page.

5. Write Semantic Copy
When writing copy consider the fact that search engines now attempt to extract meaning from your content by analyzing the mixture of keywords you have used. For this reason a page will achieve higher relevance if it covers a topic from all angles and contains many different complementary keywords relevant to that topic rather than repeating the same phrase time and time again. Start by assigning a page an H1 heading (the main page heading) and then breaking the topic down into four or five sub-topics each of which should have an H2 or H3 sub-heading. Each sub-topic will then have its own sub-set of keywords around the main topic. This technique can significantly improve the semantic meaning extracted from any content.

6. Build Website Value
Write compelling original content that is in-depth, topical and relevant. Don’t be tempted to copy content from elsewhere on the web as search engines employ advanced duplicate content detection. Write about topics which aren’t covered extensively elsewhere and offer valuable content which is helpful to your readers. Websites with unique content and value consistently sustain higher readership and acquire more quality links which in turn lead to higher ranking and readership.

7. Use a Unique Title Tag for Each Page
Each page on your website should have a unique page Meta Title Tag. Just to clarify, this is the TITLE tag inside the HEAD area of the HTML code. The Meta Title remains one of the most important aspects of SEO and is one of the top five Google ranking factors even after the latest search engine algorithm changes. Title tags should be less than 70 characters including spaces and should contain the page’s main target keyword along with a secondary keyword alongside your brand (if needed). Avoid repeating the same keyword more than once and place the most important keyword at the beginning of the title.

8. Write Unique Meta Descriptions for Each Page
While the Meta Description Tag now has little overall ranking influence, it is still frequently used by the search engines in the search results when listing your site’s pages. For this reason it is important. Having well written, unique Meta Description tags can significantly improve click through and result in more website traffic. Meta Descriptions should be around 160 characters long including spaces and comprise an accurate description of the page with a compelling reason to visit it. A few of the main target keywords should be incorporated towards the beginning of the description. The Meta Description can be found inside the HEAD area of a web page.

9. Diversify Your Link Building Activities
If you are promoting a new site, then avoid reciprocal link building and even if you have an established website, only reciprocal link to sites which are thematically similar and complementary to your site’s theme. When linking to any site check that that site ranks reasonably well in Google and that it is free from spam and has worthwhile content. Do not link to websites which appear to have weak or plagiarised content. Remember you are endorsing the site by linking to it and linking to ‘bad neighbourhoods’ can adversely affect your site’s own ranking.

Writing good articles and submitting them to high quality article sites is a good way of promoting your site as many article sites will provide a backlink to your site from the article body text.

Focus on acquiring one way links wherever possible and avoid adding lots of links with the same format or keyword.

10. Don’t Over-Optimize Your Links
The text used by any website linking to you (inside the clickable part of the link which opens your website) is called the “anchor text” of a link and this is an extremely important parameter which is analyzed and used by the search engines to assess the relevance of a particular page for a certain keyword. Thus, if more people link to a page with ‘cheap Ipod deals’ in the anchor text, then the search engines will tend to rank the recipient page higher for that term – assuming of course the links have sufficient quality (see point 12 – link placement). When optimizing anchor text avoid repeated use of the same keyword combinations because the search engine will consider this as an attempt to artificially influence ranking and they could penalize you. Hundreds or thousands of links all added in a short timeframe with optimized anchor text pointing back to your domain can be damaging, especially for a new website with few existing links.

11. Be Cautious of Link Buying
Many search engines have waged war on link buying, so if you must buy links it is important that they are purchased from sites which don’t advertise themselves as a ‘link seller’ and that there are no obvious signs of such practice – such as lists of search engine accessible links on their website homepage under ‘Our Sponsors’ or ‘Advertisers’.

12. Consider Link Placement
Bear in mind that link placement is very important too. A link to your site placed in the footer of a web page will carry little value because this is a widely used paid link placement area and the search engines are intelligent enough to now analyze where a link is placed on a page when determining its value. Always strive for in-content text links inside the body of a content-rich, relevant page wherever possible. Avoid seeking links which are placed on pages with long lists of other sites.

13. Consider Referral Traffic from Links
The best quality links to your site will be from pages which themselves rank for relevant terms related to your products and services in the search engines and your link placement within these pages will be such as to provide some referral (click through) traffic to your website as well as providing search engine value for SEO purposes.

14. Avoid Link Exchange Schemes
From my experience link exchange is dead, or at least it should be! However many misguided people seem to think otherwise. People who spend their time exchanging links for supposed SEO value are now merely fooling themselves. Many exchange links disappear very quickly when your back is turned and the value of these ‘link schemes’ has dwindled away to near zero in recent years. Sites which offer link exchange frequently offer links back from domains which are used solely for linking, often with weak, copied content and little or no trust. Links from these sites are frequently more harmful than they are useful.

15. Research Authority Sites from which to Ask for Links
Once you have your website value proposition sorted and a strong portfolio of ‘linkable’ content, research websites who are leaders in your chosen field to get links from. You can compile a list of links that your competitors have acquired using free tools like ‘Link Diagnosis’ (runs in Firefox) and by using Google advanced search operators. For example if you’re looking for .org domains that talk about your keyword and list recommended sites you might search for:

‘inurl:.org “your target keyword” + “recommended sites”

or

‘inurl:.org “your target keyword” + “Links” -reciprocal.

The latter search finds pages which don’t ask for a reciprocal link back.

16. Host the Site in Your Target Country
If you are targeting the US market, host your website in the USA. In Europe some UK hosting companies run web servers in mainland Europe countries like Germany. This is not ideal for SEO, although Google Webmaster Tools does allow you to set the target country for any domain.

17. Avoid Having Multiple Domains Which Have the Same Content
Keep the most successful domain and redirect the others with a 301 redirect to that domain. For new websites decide on your brand and stick to it. In the same manner, ensure that the Canonical version of your domain is re-pointed. This is your domain minus the ‘www’ attribute. The non-www version of your site should redirect to the www or vice versa depending on which version of your domain you’re promoting. Failure to do this will mean some people will inevitably link to the non www version of your site and others the www, splitting your all-important link equity.

18. Continually Analyze Site Performance
Free tools like Google webmaster Tools and Google Analytics offer a vast amount of data about your website performance. Adding these tools means adding a small javaScript snippet to your website pages and in the case of Webmaster Tools – a small file needs to be uploaded to your hosting web server to verify you own the domain. The data from these tools will give valuable information about how users interact with your content and how long they stay on your page/s as well as the keywords they used to find you. This data can be used to apply continuous improvement to your website content.

More and more companies are using RSS as a means to communicate, so having an RSS feed that is professional and well polished will help differentiate your company from your competition. What makes an RSS feed professional? Follow these simple steps to polish your RSS feed and take it to the next level…

1. Feed Image
Add an image to your RSS feed. The image will be displayed by many feed readers each time your feed is displayed. This will help build and reinforce your brand or image in the minds of people who read your RSS feed. Adding an image to an RSS feed is relatively easy, and adds a level of professionalism.

2. Images And Links
Add images and links within the RSS feed. The process of adding images and links to the description field of an RSS feed is really quite simple if you are using software to manage your feed, while it may be somewhat complex if you are hand-coding your feed. Incorporating images or hot links in the feed’s content will allow your readers to explore further and dig deeper into your content. The added benefit, of course, are the additional web links back to your site from any sites that choose to syndicate or display your feed’s contents.

3. Validate
Properly formed code is important, in order to ensure that all RSS readers can read and display your feed. But it is also very important for another reason… nothing is more embarrassing or unprofessional than an RSS feed that is broken or stops working. Use software to manage your feed creation, and validate your feed on a regular basis.

4. Easy To Subscribe
Make your RSS feed easy to subscribe to. Include the traditional RSS icon, or an indicator site-wide, so that website visitors can easily locate and subscribe to your RSS feeds. Include basic directions on how website visitors should subscribe to your RSS feed.

5. Auto Discovery
Add “auto-discovery” code to the HTML header of your website. Many RSS aggregators include an auto-discovery feature, which allows them to automatically detect when a website offers an RSS feed. So, if your website visitors are using one of those aggregators, they will instantly know that an RSS feed for your content is available from your website.

Instantly create auto discovery code – http://www.feedforall.com/autodiscovery.htm

6. Favicon
Add a “favicon” to your website. Favicons (short for “favorite icons”) are typically a tiny version of a company or Web site’s logo, and appear in the URL bar of the user’s web browser. When a user bookmarks a specific Web page that includes a favicon, that Web page loads the customized icon into the user’s browser. Because the favicon is usually displayed next to the web site address, it can act like a small logo or an icon that visitors can use to remember the web site or the site address. Feed directories and RSS Search Engines will often use a favicon beside an RSS feed’s listings. So be sure that you have one on your website; otherwise, you’ll have nothing but a generic icon beside your feed. Webmasters can establish branding by creating a favicon for their website. Here is a free service from HTMLKit: http://www.html-kit.com/favicon

7. Subscribe To Your Own Feed
Always subscribe to your RSS feed, so you can see what your website visitors are seeing.

While it is not essential to incorporate the above elements in your RSS feed, the additions will result in a more professional and polished RSS feed that stands apart from competitors in news aggregators and RSS directories. Spending a few extra minutes here could easily draw more attention to your feed.
