Someone PLEASE Help Me Find My Way Back!

sexy girl with laptopSome of you may look at the name of this blog, “The Ad Master” and think, “yeah right, someone else exaggerating their qualifications . . ” Well, I’ve decided to give a little background into my journey to Ad Masterdom.  It all began in the year 2007.   After 10 years of being a stay-at-home mom, I decided I would really like to start making my own money again.  I wanted to find a way to do this from home so I could still be around to annoy the kids all day.  I had been a Management Analyst for the US Govt for 10 years so I had some skills and I (mistakenly/naively) believed I would be able to find work by looking online.  Up until now I hadn’t used the internet for anything other than shopping.  Amazon, shopNBC – that was about it.  I didn’t even have my own computer.  My husband has about 5 (he “does computers” for a living) and my kids had one in their playroom.  So, one day I sat down on top of the legos and naked barbies and googled, (I still can’t believe how stupid I was)  Make Money From Home, Ha Ha HAAAAAAAAAAA!  WOW I was so excited – look at all these EASY ways you can make money.  You can make hundreds a day filling out surveys (I paid $65 for a list of these sites) and you can make thousands processing rebates (I think I paid about $50 for this one) – What a moronic, gullible, NINCOMPOOP I was!!!  It took about 5 weeks for the cynicism to step in.  I started to realize the internet was full of liars and cheats, (suprise suprise) and that there were millions of people just like me who wanted to work from home on the internet.

I gave up on the “easy” money and signed up with a group called “profitmart” you get a website set up for a monthly fee and you can sell whatever you want.  This worked a little better, I made $2800 over a years’ time.   While I was trying to promote my website, I discovered traffic exchanges and one day I came across a wonderful little promotion tool that I decided to buy, it was $10 and you could also resell it.  A few days after I bought it I was in the profitmart forum and one of the guys was talking about how he bought the same promotional tool and had sold five of them the day before. So I went back and set up my resell link hoping that I could also sell a few, WELL, I definitely was not ready for what happened next, check out just a few days from this:

Notice this is only 4 days of sales (not even 4 whole days)  This went on for six weeks straight.  Every day I made between 250 and 350.  I was SOOO happy – After only a few months on line I’ve discovered how to make money online – YEAH!!!  So, what did I do with all this money?  Well, at that time I didn’t realize that the sales would slow down and stop eventually – so I kept reinvesting the money I made on more advertising (I really didn’t want the sales to stop), both on advertising tools that I could use forever and one time advertising like solo ads, classified ads, banner advertising, etc.  I spent around $5000 trying out online advertising.  I kept thinking when I hit the right market my sales would double or triple.  I mean, I was already selling 25-35 of these a day and I was new.  So it made sense to me.  But that isn’t what happened.  It was a new product and sold like crazy for 6-8 weeks and then it just dried up.

What did I learn from this?  I KNOW how to advertise online – I know how to track results – I know how to search for your online market – I know how to write great sales lettters.  The only problem now is that I know how much money you can make online.  The hardest part is to try and find a great product that will sell.  Since this windfall, I have found a few products that sell fairly well, but nothing close to what I sold with that product.

I know it’s out there somewhere, I just have to find it – The search continues!!

That is a good story. Let me know when you find this product to sell.

So why the blog? Is this part of your marketing plan?

Rick – No, it’s not part of any marketing plan, although I know it does sound like one of THOSE stories, it’s more of a collection of what I wish I knew back when all of this happened, instead of not having any idea what online advertising is.

It is great to hear a success story instead of people complaining. To me the difference was that you stuck to it and learned from your experiences. Thanks for sharing.

We are looking forward to setting up our “making money online” project for some charities we currently are helping to raise funds to support their programs. There is definitely much that I am learning from your experiences of making money online which I could share with our group.

    Thank you so much!

    This was a good read.

Sometimes, the best path is trial and error. It may cost you some money in the short term, but long term, it is worth it.

Thanks so much for sharing this story with us. My husband keeps asking me why I am not trying to earn money from my blog. But, I like you tried a few things and nothing really worked.

So for now I remain a non profit blog. And I invest a great deal of time and money to keep my blog going.

Thanks so much for sharing this with us!

Great story. I’ve tried a bunch of get rich quick schemes too, and I’ve been burned more than once.

I write about my experiences trying different opportunities and products in my blog.

Okay I’ll bite, so what was this tool that sold that well?
And what did that experience have to do with AdMaster…keyword “master”.

Where would you suggest I advertise to promote my Healthy wealthy moms blog?

The problem with most of the “get rich easy” scams is that they work for desperate people. These people are looking for an easy way out and if they can get it for paying their last $50 they will do it. The problem is that they are not going to make money but they will only lose theirs.

Making money on the internet is definitely a lot of work and if you want to succeed it is not going to be easy. Most people think that you can create a good income quite easy by “taking advantage of some glitch on the internet” but to be honest that is not going to get your far. You will need to work and create quality and hope someone buys that because it works – just like in the real life.
