Eric – thanks for your insight. You are right, if you only link to sites with low page rank you are not helping your site. I’m a pr snob and only link to sites that have a pr. But, I didn’t have a pr until a few months ago and I’m glad that some people linked to me just because of the content I DID have.

Linking is a lost cause if you link with low page rank sites. You can link to a 1000 page rank 0 and have no affect.
Intestingly enough, having say a page rank of 4 does not mean equal results to another page rank 4 with the same content.
I have many sites that have fluctuated from a 4 to a 5, and then back to a 4. They do not collect google searches equally at all.
My main blog, with the most readers, comments, and Total links is by far the most powerful, with thousands of links over it’s 2.5 year life.
Links have the most value for a 6 month time frame. NO more, no less. Multiple links from the same site do not count …. 10 links from one blog still count as just one.

Thanks so much for writing this. I learned more about ranking from this one article than I’ve learned anywhere else. Is there a way to find out your Google page rank? Or a way to find out the “hot” keywords or phrases for the week?

Good article. I’ve personally found it a lot easier to rank with Google, than with MSN or Yahoo.

Maybe we need to trade SEO strategies.
