I think it depends on the business and clientele that you are looking to get out of your website. Obviously if you are a blogging site, or journalist type site, blogging traffic may be better. On the other hand, SEO traffic may be better for sites that have a focus on products and services.

The thing about blogs - especially self hosted wordpress blogs - is that they are in their very nature "search engine friendly."

It's possible to create a static HTML website that can't be indexed by the search engines.

I recently fixed a site that was created by a "professional" web developer, who charged my client $10K and designed the site in such a way that five years later, it still wasn't indexed in Google.

That's why I love self hosted blogs for most people. SEO is a highway that is three miles wide, two miles thick and circles the globe. You can get in your blog and ride the SEO highway with very little knowledge and do much better than someone who knows a lot but is using a traditional static website.

I like your article, the way you are writing.
All you are writing about look so clear - Thank you.
Maybe, my question will look like a stepping aside a bit, yet let me question. Is the desirable traffic not just a record of clicks, while the main goal of the blogging is to share the personal thoughts?
Consequently, the most powerful tool to improve our blogs should be our "word of a mouse"
I see, the practice looks otherwise - our stats records lots of clicks but not the comments. So the moral problem becomes the obvious. What's our main goal? Do we use the technical things or serve to them?

[...] Random Feed wrote an interesting post today onHere’s a quick excerptI’ve heard it said, and even seen it written, that blogging is better than SEO for getting traffic. Are blogging traffic or SEO traffic generation techniques better for you, or does it not really matter? Actually, a lot depends on you and which you like best: blogs or traditional websites, and also what you want the traffic for. I also wonder why the distinction is being made, since anybody serious about internet marketing and getting plenty of traffic, will use both. There is really no nee [...]
