YouTube launches a new Sports portal and expands its advertising tools

Sports fans who go to YouTube for their sports content have news in store today. Google announced a new Sports portal on YouTube, which aims to offer a more immersive experience entirely dedicated to this type of content.

Google says the amount of sports content uploaded to YouTube in the US has increased by over 40% in 2020, so a more convenient way to view it is a welcome change. The new portal will house recent game highlights, news and trending videos in their region. You can also find content created by athletes, such as NFL wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. The new sports experience can be found on the office website here, or on the mobile app in the Explore tab. It will also arrive later on YouTube on smart TVs.

YouTube also has news for advertisers, with the expansion of its range of connected TVs on YouTube Select, its platform dedicated to advertisers. This allows businesses to gain insight into popular content in different categories and help them buy ads that target specific categories of viewers, and this expansion is taking that content outside of the United States, into markets such as Australia, Canada, India and Japan.

This expansion will take place during the year 2021, with more countries to come, and it also includes sports content to align with the updated sports section.
